Accounts
Connect your mail provider and keep each account’s settings and content separate.
Connecting a provider
NextMail uses IMAP for mail access and SMTP for sending, with password authentication. Use the server names, ports, and TLS settings documented by your provider. Some providers require an app-specific password or an authorization code instead of the password you use on their website.
Known public domains can be recognized directly. For custom domains, NextMail can use MX records to suggest a known provider, then fall back to other discovery methods or manual settings. Discovery does not send your credentials.
OAuth is not implemented. A provider that requires OAuth cannot be connected with password-only authentication, even when server settings are detected correctly.
More than one account
You can add, switch, edit, re-authenticate, and safely remove accounts. Mail, contacts, contact groups, sync preferences, and folder mappings are scoped to each account. The app remembers the last selected folder separately for each account.
There is no unified inbox, conversation aggregation, or cross-account search. Local search can cover the current folder or selectable folders within the current account.
Sync preferences
Accounts have independent sync strategies. Full synchronization runs when an account is first set up, when the app starts, on its configured schedule, or when you manually request mail.
The documented periodic options are 1, 5, or 10 minutes; a value of 0 means manual-only scheduling. Message-body prefetch is optional per account. Attachments remain on demand.
Contacts and writing
Contacts are stored locally within an account. You can create, rename, and delete contact groups, and use a group name in the To, Cc, or Bcc field to add its members. Duplicate addresses within that field are removed.
The rich-text composer supports drafts, templates, signatures, replies, forwards, attachments, and inline images. Closing a compose window asks you to decide whether to save the draft.
